Liturgy & Music

Gaudete Choir

Music is an essential part of our ministry at St. John’s, supporting a worshiping community that honors the depth and richness of the Episcopal tradition and the best of contemporary currents in liturgy and music.

Our traditional Rite One Episcopal liturgy is accompanied by the Gaudete choir and organ on the first and third Sundays of the month at the 9:30 a.m. Eucharist and on special occasions. The Gaudete choir is directed by Susan Stewart, who joins in song with, Kevin Jones, Connee Young, and Mark Rasmussen. The ensemble sings Early Music, plainsong chant, and Episcopal favorites. Organist Robert Young accompanies the liturgy.

The Rite II Choir sings traditional as well as contemporary music on the second and fourth Sundays of the month at 9:30 a.m.  Members include Roderick Bell, Judie Cochill, Kathy Conover, Bob Conover, Sandy Hall, and Meg Tinsley. The Rite II choir welcomes new singers. Organist Mark Rasmussen accompanies the liturgy.

The Organ at St. John’s is a historic Moeller from the early 1900s. The instrument has 24 ranks of pipes and fills the church’s interior with majestic sounds. A visit to the organ loft can be arranged for visitors.
